Bedtime routines are easier to follow when children can see what comes next. This printable bedtime routine chart gives toddlers and preschoolers a simple visual sequence they can follow with you each evening.

The printable includes a standard bedtime routine, a shorter checklist for rough or rushed nights, and a blank version you can customize for your own family.

What’s Included in the Printable

The download includes four pages:

  • a five-step bedtime routine chart
  • a normal-night and shortened-night bedtime checklist
  • a build-your-own bedtime routine page

The example routine uses five simple steps:

  • hygiene
  • brush teeth
  • pajamas
  • quiet connection
  • lights out

You do not have to follow this exact order. The printable is meant to give your child a familiar rhythm, not turn bedtime into a rigid schedule.

How to Use the Bedtime Routine Chart

Print the chart and place it somewhere your child can easily see during the evening routine.

You can use the checkboxes together as you move through each step, or simply point to the next step so your child knows what is coming.

For younger toddlers, keep the routine simple. Older toddlers and preschoolers may enjoy checking off each step themselves.

On difficult evenings, use the shortened checklist instead of abandoning the routine completely. The goal is to preserve a familiar sequence even when bedtime does not go perfectly.

Make the Routine Fit Your Family

Every family’s evening looks different. You may want to add a bath, remove a step, change the order, or use a different quiet activity before lights out.

That is why the printable also includes a blank Build Your Own Bedtime Routine page. Use it to create a version that fits your child and your normal evening.

If you are still deciding what steps to include, read our realistic bedtime routine for toddlers and preschoolers for a simple framework and practical examples.

A Simple Routine Is Enough

A bedtime routine does not need to be elaborate to be useful. A few familiar steps that your family can repeat most nights are enough to create a predictable evening rhythm.

Use the printable as a guide, adapt it when needed, and keep the routine realistic for your home.
